Effective September 30, 2023, LTSA’s COVID-related remote witnessing measures will be retired, in line with the removal of province-wide COVID restrictions. Lawyers and Notaries will no longer be able to use video technology (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.) to witness signatures for land title purposes.
There are limited exceptions, but they must be specific to the unique characteristics of the person who cannot attend in person.
What does this mean – clients who are unable to meet their local lawyer or notary will need to meet a person in their jurisdiction to have their ID verified and signatures witnessed.
Realtors and brokers should allow for an extra week or two to have documents witnessed.
Stay tuned for further details as they come up.
As usual, thanks for the support. Enjoy the rest of the summer.
